LRMC’s Juan Christmas campaign: Parol on Parade

Students dress up LRT 1 with lanterns in LRMC’s Juan Christmas campaign

The LRT Line 1 gets decked with Christmas cheer as operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) spearheads the Juan Christmas Lantern Festival, where students create solar and battery-powered lanterns to decorate LRT-1’s passenger stations.

During the launch at the Balintawak station on December 18, the festive works of colleges and universities located along LRT 1 were unveiled, showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of students from Emilio Aguinaldo College, Montessori Professional College-Pasay, University of the East-Manila, Arellano University-Pasay, Manila Business College, and ACTEC-Caloocan.

“The Juan Christmas Lantern Festival celebrates national pride and unity,” says LRT 1 Operations Director Rodrigo Bulario. “We envisioned it as a community-building experience where students from different schools adorn the stations with their creativity and ingenuity through self-sustaining lanterns that will add joy and color to the LRT 1 stations, as well as the families with whom the winning teams will share their prizes with.”

Each team designed one station with lanterns that showcase Filipino family values. The lanterns were required to be self-sustaining and should operate using solar panels or batteries.

In the spirit of giving, each school also chose a charity to whom they want to give Noche Buena Packages to as part of the prizes for the event.

The launch was hosted by National Ambassador for Peace Epy Quizon and featured performances from another National Ambassador for Peace Noel Cabangon and Banda Kawayan Philippines.

Awarding of winning entries is set for January 6, 2016 with three winners taking home cash prizes each. The grand prize winner brings home P75,000, the second prize winner wins P60,000, and the third prize winner gets P50,000. Each of the winners’ chosen charities will also get P20,000 worth of materials in support of their respective advocacies.

The lanterns will be on display in the LRT stations until January 6, 2016.
