Alyssa Tricia Eloise Vintola and Lorenz Ray Payonga, both Electronics and Communications Engineering scholars, were the overall global winner for their entry project, ‘Oscillohump’, an alternative energy solution to harvest energy from road humps using the simple concept of electromagnetic induction as its physical foundation.  Whenever vehicles pass over the Oscillohump, they generate power to charge a battery, used to power DC loads such as LED street lamps, traffic lights, or CCTV cameras.

A recent study proved that long-term intensive glucose control based on a gliclazide-modified release strategy among diabetes patients may create a major impact on the reduction of kidney failure.

According to leading researchers of the ADVANCE-ON Post-trial Observational Study, , an intensive glucose-lowering treatment is likely to produce major long term benefits for the kidneys.

With this strategy, diabetes patients may have a lower risk of renal failure that requires dialysis or transplantation.
Researchers also note that patients did not experience any increase or decrease in the risks of death as well as any cardiovascular disease.

Community welcomes arrival of clean toilets in “Fiesta” video by Domex

It’s a scene typically played out during fiestas: People rushing to the streets, drawn to the sound of a marching band. Everyone is smiling, eager to see the “star” of the celebration. But instead of showing the face of a movie celebrity, a beauty queen or a politician, the video reveals an unlikely, yet welcome sight—a new, clean toilet facility.

Aptly titled “Fiesta”, the Domex video, produced by Unilever Philippines, is available on Youtube and shows how underprivileged Filipinos welcome the “arrival” of clean toilet facilities in their communities. “The video aims to make people realize the value of a toilet which most of us, unfortunately, take for granted,” said Dennis Chua, Domex Brand Manager.

The “Fiesta” video contributes to the efforts of Domex’s One Million Clean Toilets Movement. Each unique view translates into a pledge for the advocacy campaign which collects pledges from households to conscientiously maintain their own hygienic bathrooms. For every pledge received, Domex will donate P5 to UNICEF’s sanitation program, towards improving access to basic sanitation in deprived areas around the world, including the Philippines.

“By watching the ‘Fiesta’ video and asking our friends to watch it, we are not only raising awareness for toilet appreciation and sanitation, more importantly, we are helping less privileged communities gain access to clean toilet facilities,” said Benjie Yap, Unilever Foods and Home Care Vice President.

Bonakid Pre-School Ready Set Laban 2: First Episode Winner Games challenges moms and their Batang May Laban

Jolen, tumbang preso, patintero – these are just some of the classic Filipino games moms today grew up with; games now featured in the second season of the award-winning game show on GMA, Bonakid Pre-School’s Ready Set Laban! Now hosted by one of the country’s most sought after hosts, Drew Arellano, along with celebrity mommy co-hosts, the fun-filled mom and kid game show aired its first episode last October 5.

Joining Drew for the pilot episode of Bonakid Pre-School’s Ready Set Laban Season 2 was none other than mom of one, Julia Clarete. Both hosts were very enthusiastic to kick off the first episode of the show, cheering on the first mom and kid tandem of the new season, mommy Karelle Marquez and daughter Keiley.

A veteran of the show, Karelle compares their experience last year to this season’s. “Mas physically challenging yung ngayon. Mas mahirap siya pero it was a very fun experience and bonding for me and Keiley (It’s more physically challenging now. It’s harder, but it was a very fun experience and bonding for me and Keiley),” she shares.

The mom of 5-year-old Keiley was also astounded with the strength and perseverance her daughter revealed during the show. “She exceeded my expectations kasi kahit 5 years old lang siya na very feminine and petite, nagawa pa rin niya ng sobrang galling (She exceeded my expectations because even if she’s only 5 years old, and very feminine and petite, she was able to do everything very well).”

Sige Moms get engaged in their children’s learning, playtime

Every time I told someone that I have five kids, they always ask as to how I was able to manage them and handle every single one of them. There is no perfect book to be a perfect parent, but we can always be a buddy for our child, we can be a playmate as well.

Mothers know what is best for their children, but sometimes, they tend to hover over their kids and discourage them from engaging in activities that cause mess and disarray. As creative play is the natural means for children to educate themselves, it is important for moms to allow their little ones to be kids and boost their intellectual, emotional and physical growth.

Breeze, the country’s leading detergent brand, is empowering moms to help their kids reach their full potential through the Sige Moms campaign. This involves saying yes to learning, discoveries, and adventure, even if it means getting dirty or having stained clothes. To help children achieve holistic growth and development, the brand strongly believes that Sige Moms should be involved and engaged in their kids’ lives, while allowing them to discover things on their own.
