It’s been years
since I last visited the Starmall Alabang, formerly Alabang Metropolis, one of
Southenerns' favourite places to unwind because of its accessibility,
affordable buys, and a wide variety of food choices. There has been noticeable
change since the last time I have been here. The lighting and aesthetics have
greatly improved and the mall is now more spacious. Another thing that Starmall
Alabang prides in is their renovated and up-to-date cinemas. In time for the
Christmas season, Cinema 4 opened its doors for everyone to enjoy the ATMOS
DOLBY experience. ATMOS DOLBY sound
system has been creating 3D aural experience in theatres since June 2012.
The Dolby Atmos system places
speakers above the audience. But it’s more than just shoving a few speakers in
the ceiling. The actual Atmos system lets film makers place sound elements in a
3D space. With 5.1 and 7.1 systems, when you want to create the illusion that
someone is behind the audience you just throw that sound to those speakers.
It’s a speaker based system. With Atmos, instead of pushing a sound to a
particular speaker, it’s pushed to a place in a 3D space. For example, to
create the illusion of a helicopter flying overhead the sound engineering
doesn’t pick which speaker the sound of the helicopter will come out of.
Instead, the engineer picks a point in a 3D space and the Atmos system
automatically adjusts the sound coming of the appropriate speaker.

Cinema 4 is available for block
screening, with a capacity of 160 seats plus 10 lazy boys, in first come first serve basis. The regular
seats are comfy and spacious, with adjustable armrests to suit your preference.
Price range is from 225-250 php, quite cheap compared to other specialty
cinemas that cost 300+.
I'm really amused that Starmall
Alabang has levelled-up. Especially because it now means that Southerners need
not to travel to the other side to experience world-class cinemas that provide
ATMOS DOLBY Sound System.
