Iron Bar Chef Challenge at _____________

Last week, I was asked to be one of the judges for a cooking showdown, The Iron Bar Chef Challenge.
There are six team to compete with four members each for the cooking challenge. The twist with this contest is that, the ingredients that are in the mystery bayong are unknown to the contenders. Just imagine the kind of challenge this is when you don’t know what you’re going to cook. They were given 1 hour to come up with a minimum of three (3) dishes.   To add pressure to the contestant and to test their concentration with their cooking, we started to ask questions after thirty minutes.
Different viands and plating were shown and I was so amazed with the kind of dishes they have prepared.  I learned a dish or two that was so easy to make and yet so nutritious as well.

The criteria for judging
50% taste
25%plating
25% nutritional value

There are cash prizes to all the participants

And the winner is………………..

The most anticipated words were finally said and everyone was looking forward to know the winner.
The event was so exciting that you wouldn’t expect that it’s all happening inside the Medium Security compound of the Muntinlupa Bilibid Prison.

The Iron Bar Chef is just one of the many programs that the officials of the came out with in connection with the restoration of the dignity. There are so many programs that the inmates were part of in preparation to them joining the society again. There are so many stories behind each inmate and the good thing is there’s now hope in their heart that they could face the society once again prepared to gain the trust that was once lost. It is now up to us as to prevent them again from doing thing that would lead them back to the prison cells.
“Hindi lahat ng nakulong may kasalanan, Hindi lahat ng nasa labas ay walang kasalanan”
Living in Tondo, I have witness crimes that lead others to jail and I do understand that some of this crimes were self-defense or just by accident. Let’s try not to judge those who came out of prison but let us hear the story behind their reformation.

There are so many reformation program inside the BUCor and it will guide and give each offenders a chance to show their skills and talent.

They may have done something to be put inside the prison cell but let us not in prison them for life, for they to deserve a second change just like each one of us.
